Oct. 4, 2013 - BEND, Ore. -- A new dual fluid hydration reservoir for cyclists and endurance athletes is now available from hydration gear supplier Mazama Designs. The new Dualocity reservoir can hold both water and an electrolyte drink allowing athletes to hydrate as well as replenish electrolytes as they go.
The innovative Dualocity reservoir features two side-by-side fluid chambers each with its own drink tube and bite valve. When the reservoir is loaded into a hydration backpack, the two drink tubes drape over the wearer’s shoulder giving them instant access to either water or a sport drink.
According to Matt Hoskins, CEO of Mazama Designs, the Dualocity bladder was developed in response to inquiries from friends and customers. “I’ve had a number of people over the years ask me about offering a bladder that could carry Gatorade™ and water. My mountain biking partners typically brought along a bottle of electrolyte in their bottle cage, but they didn’t always end up drinking it when they should. With Dualocity, the juice is right there at your fingertips. Replacing your electrolytes early and over the duration of your ride is a real performance booster and helps you stay cramp-free.”
The patent-pending Dualocity reservoir is designed to fit into standard hydration backpacks. Each fluid chamber holds about 30 oz. of fluid, for a total capacity of 60 oz, (1.8 Liters). The side-by-side chamber design creates a low-profile reservoir, helping to minimize fluid sloshing. Left and right drink tubes feature high-flow bite valves that include a magnet retention system for tethering the bite valve to the front of a hydration pack. The two drink tubes may be brought together over one shoulder or routed left and right. Quick release couplings connect the drink tubes to the reservoir, allowing the reservoir to be easily disconnected for filling and cleaning. The reservoir is made from a USA-sourced film that is taste-free and anti-microbial.
One of the new reservoir’s unique properties is its ability to convert from a dual fluid reservoir to a single fluid reservoir. The Dualocity includes a sealing clip that can be disengaged to open up a conduit between the reservoir’s two chambers changing the Dualocity from a two chamber bladder to a single chamber model. This allows users to utilize the full capacity of the reservoir in situations where they are only planning to drink one type of fluid. The sealing clip can also be opened during clean-up so that the bladder’s interior can be easily flushed.
