New product : Rock & Roll Inspired Skull Yoga Mat Designed to Unleash Your Inner "Badass"

YAS Fitness Centers unveils new rock and roll inspired skull yoga mat designed to help yogis take their practice "to the next level."

Venice, CA  October 14, 2013
If you thought that yoga studios were all about chanting, granola and sanskrit then you might need to reconsider. YAS founder and the creator of "Yoga for Athletes™," Kimberly Fowler unveiled a new skull-themed yoga mat designed to help get you in touch with your inner badass.

What’s up with the skulls? "Skulls were my symbol when I raced as a triathlete," explains Fowler, "My bike had skulls on the handlebars; my running shorts had a skull print. I used the skulls to help me take it to the next level. When you show up to a race decked out in skulls, you better be a badass!"

Not your typical yogi, "irreverent" is how CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta described Kimberly Fowler’s popular approach to yoga in his feature on her fun and unpretentious classes. Since opening YAS Fitness Center on Abbot Kinney in Venice, California in 2001, Fowler has regularly shaken up the yoga and fitness worlds with her fresh, no-nonsense workouts designed for everyone from elite athletes to, well, everyone.

The author of The No OM Zone and the newly released Flat Belly Yoga! also confesses to having skulls tattooed on her back. Fowler says, "When I first started the skull yoga line, I wanted to make it a symbol of empowerment." The YAS skull pattern can also be seen on bra tops, tank tops and leggings in addition to a variety of hip workout gear.

Fowler might not be the first designer to use skulls, in recent years, skulls have been used as a fashion statement by tastemakers and trendsetters alike. Legendary fashion designer Alexander McQueen used the skull symbol throughout his collections and is often credited with helping transport the symbol "from the catwalk to the High Street." It begs the question, is Fowler doing the same for the yoga industry?

Can you achieve enlightenment with a skull-themed yoga mat? Although that has yet to be seen, Fowler encourages students to adopt a regular yoga practice for its many benefits. If unleashing your inner badass and cultivating an edgy, rock n’ roll themed practice comes with a YAS Skull Mat, count us in!
