MY ASICS Upgrades iOS App for Adaptive Training, Debuts SteadyPace Tracker to Help Runners Train More Effectively

New Visual Pace Indicator Helps Runners Adjust Pace On The Run With Detailed, Real-Time Performance Data

New York  November 18, 2014
MY ASICS, the science-based adaptive training program for runners, today released the latest version of its iOS app featuring SteadyPace, a new, real-time visual pace indicator, now in Beta, that helps runners actively adjust their pace as they run in order to train more effectively. The new app is free, and now available in the App Store.

Developed after seven years of run performance research at the ASICS Institute of Sports Science in Kobe, Japan, MY ASICS training plans are tailored to each runner’s unique abilities and individual goals. Each plan is structured to build up a runner’s anaerobic threshold, which leads to improved endurance, increased speed, and better overall performance. When runs are logged, the app automatically analyzes run performance and adapts pace and plan trajectory for future runs in order to help runners understand their progress and continue working toward their goals.

“MY ASICS was created to bring the best in sport science to every runner who wants to optimize their performance and achieve their goals. With the new iOS app, we’re taking the guesswork out of training by giving runners real-time data about their pace and insight into how they should adjust to improve,” said David McNeill, MY ASICS Growth Lead of ASICS Corporation. “There’s been tremendous response to our mobile apps since they launched in 2011. In the past year, the number of runs logged using MY ASICS has doubled to approximately 10 million, and more than 2/3 of MY ASICS runners achieve their running goals.”

In the latest version of MY ASICS, the new run tracking screens are now more visual and insightful than ever, simplifying the running experience and helping runners make calculated adjustments as they train. Runners can now view their current route on a map and chart their progress in distance, pace and splits, all in real-time.

Splits are now logged automatically every kilometer or mile, and all runs tracked with the new app will include split-level details in the run logbook to provide historical context and help runners better understand their progress over time. While other online training programs charge runners monthly or annual fees for a static one-size-fits-all plan, MY ASICS offers customized, adaptive training for free.

Using SteadyPace, runners can quickly check their current pace compared to their target pace for the run in a simple, at-a-glance visualization. Runners no longer have to manually calculate a "race pace" or a "comfortable pace" in their head as they train—all they have to do is stay within a visual pace bracket during any given point on a run. SteadyPace takes guided training to a whole new level, making it effortless for runners to break through their plateau.
New features include:
  • Create your personalized training plan on the app in under a minute
  • Use the new SteadyPace view to get an at-a-glance visual of your pace vs planned pace
  • Gain insight into progress over time with split-level data automatically tracked in run logbook
  • See your current position and route on a realtime map
  • Track your route, total time, lap times, distance, and average pace
  • Adjust your pace to maximize performance
  • Save your routes and sync your runs with online logbook
  • Log runs manually (if runner prefers to run without a device)
  • View schedule, phases and upcoming runs
  • Facebook and Twitter sharing to share runs and achievements with friends
  • Gear logging to track mileage on your shoes and other gear
MY ASICS training plans are free, and available for marathon, half marathon, 10 mile, 10K, 5 mile, and 5K distances. Runners can adjust the intensity and frequency of training as well as shape the plan to match their current running abilities. MY ASICS marathon plans range in length from 12 to 33 weeks.
